Invista Apparel and Advanced Textiles will exhibit new products featuring the company’s EcoMade Technology at the upcoming ISPO, the world’s largest multi-segment trade fair focused on sports, which takes place from 3-6 February 2019, in Munich, Germany.
Coolmax EcoMade fibre and Thermolite EcoMade fibre and insulation are made from certified amounts of recycled resources such as plastic bottles and are designed to offer the active/outdoor apparel industry a more sustainable alternative to virgin fibres. EcoMade technology is a key part of the company’s all-encompassing sustainability vision, in which product sustainability is a critical component.
“Invista has made a significant investment to develop differentiated recycled fibres that offer the same features, benefits, and quality as their virgin polymer equivalent, but will meet consumer expectations for more environmentally responsible products,” said Huw Williams, Invista Global Segment Leader – Active/Outdoor. “EcoMade technology is available in staple and filament forms, so that almost all fabric types and textile end uses can be served. This makes them easy to adopt for performance fabrics in the active outdoor space.”
EcoMade technology gives new life to recycled resources by transforming them into fibres through a controlled process. This means less waste is going into landfills, which appeals to millennials and environmentally-conscious consumers, the company says. EcoMade technology is available for Lycra T400 and Lycra Dual Comfort technologies, as well as for Coolmax and Thermolite brand names.
The company also announced that Lycra fibre Type 166L, primarily used in woven innovations and produced at the company’s plants in China, Singapore, and Northern Ireland, has earned a Gold Level Material Health Certificate. The certificate is awarded by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute to products that meet the Material Health requirements of the Cradle to Cradle Certified Product Standard and is valid for two years.
On show in Munich will be the new Thermolite T-Down EcoMade insulation, a sustainable alternative to down feathers at a lower cost that is GRS Certified and made with recycled fibres. With its 500+ fill power, this insulation is designed to deliver lightweight warmth to cold weather outerwear, sleeping bags and accessories.
Also new is Lycra Dual Comfort technology that utilises Lycra T400 EcoMade fibre to create fabrics combining outstanding stretch and cooling characteristics, ideally suited for performance tops.
