TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Thirty acres of sunflowers and colorful cosmos flowers are blossoming in Citong Township (莿桐鄉) , Yunlin County, along Yuling County Route 156, Yunlin County Government said on Jan. 2, according to a Central New Agency report.
The flowers were planted on the 30 acres of fallow land as green manure after the second rice crop was harvested, the report said. The sea of flowers is along a community located at the kilometer mark 29 on Yunlin County Route 156, the report said.
The sea of flowers at Citong has been named one of the top 10 seas of flowers in Taiwan, and the flowers will last through the Lunar New Year holiday, CNA reported.
Yunlin County Agriculture Department chief Chang Hung-yu (張鴻猷) said that 20 acres of the land were planted with cosmos and the remaining 10 acres with sunflowers. The red, pink, and orange cosmos flowers look like colorful flower carpets on the land and are very pleasing to the eye, he said, according to the report.
Chang said the flowers began blossoming prior to New Year Day, and now about 60% of the flowers have bloomed, adding that the flowers are expected to be in their prime during the Lunar New Year holiday.
